Generic questions are really hard, it would be much easier to look at their body of work and ask what challenges/inspiration they had in completing something that was difficult from their portfolio…

    But for generic questions:

Q1: What are telling/early signs that a client will be pleasurable/painful to work with?
Q2: What process/technique do you use to move yourself from the planning/thinking phase into action.

Q1. – Designer – Whats your favorite and most effective prototyping method when getting some ideas together for your clients?

Q2. – Developer – How many years experience in ASP.NET is required before taking the ASP.NET MCTS Course?

I will only ask one question.

What keeps you energized and refreshed to make what you do as interesting as it was when you first started learning it?

What time of the day do you feel most creative and productive?

Hey there thanks for the extra option:
Q1: What apps do you consider essential for your design work?
Q2: Do you prefer to do your creative thinking alone or as part of collaboration with a team?

    Thanks!

    I’ve got a question for a developer/designer.

How do you keep yourself up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in the industry?

Designer: How many design RSS feeds are you reading these days?!

Developer: How has your core focus (ie development language or platform) changed over the last 12 months?

    Thanks for the opportunity!
